This New Orleans restaurant celebrates it 25-year anniversary in 2008. How its wine program has changed over the years reflects the evolution of those in the majority of USA upscale restaurants. Also: reopening after hurricane Katrina.

Wine Recommendations

We publish only reviews of wines we believe to be very good to exceptional quality within basic price categories for their respective types. Price categories are: Low, Medium, High, Expensive, and Very Expensive. Only 20% to 25% of all the wines we taste for each issue make the cut—and 75% to 80% do not.

In this issue, we recommend 150 wines from 8 countries, including several that are the best versions of these wines we’ve ever tasted from specific wineries (including Atlas Peak, Bennesere, King Estate, Ladera, Tablas Creek, Vine Cliff in the USA; and imported wines from Main Divide, Salentein, Santa Rita, Sebeka).

The majority of the recommended wines sell for less than $200/case wholesale ($25 per bottle full retail). Seventeen Rieslings from the USA and Germany are included, as well as outstanding new release Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, Syrahs, Rhone-style blends, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels from the USA. We also highlight top red wines from Argentina, Chile, Italy, and New Zealand, all of them delivering excellent quality for value.
